In an era of Garage Band and YouTube, making and distributing "pop" music has never been easier. Sometimes the huge number of people competing for space can be a bit overwhelming, but, thankfully, some of the most talent voices still rise above the hubbub to leave their mark. Timeflies has certainly soared since making their debut in late 2010.
What separates the guys behind Timeflies, Cal and Rez, from the crowd is the level of craft they bring to their music. They met while studying music at Tufts, and they draw on influences from across the musical spectrum, from Pretty Lights, to Muddy Waters, to Janis Joplin. Their level of investment in their music, as well as their passion for it, shines through every track. The result is genre-defying pop that sounds just as good performed in gentle acoustic styles as it does pounding out of your speakers. Every Tuesday they drop hot fire, from freestyles over recreated beats of "Under the Sea," "Space Jam," "Wayward Son" and "Wild One" to full-length tracks. Their debut album Scotch Tape has been received with great acclaim and they're currently touring the country headlining shows across cities and colleges and we're honoured to bring this duo to campus. Check their acoustic jam "Until the Sunrise," their track "Switchblade" and "Under the Sea" for a taste of what's to come.
